BSES launches limited AC replacement scheme

In an effort to reduce energy expenses while using air conditioners and coolers to beat the heat, the BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have launched a limited AC Replacement Scheme in partnership with leading air conditioner manufacturers.

Announcing the scheme here on Wednesday, discom officials said summers of 2024 are anticipated to be intense, with temperatures already reaching 40°C in Delhi and expected to rise even higher.

To combat the heat, many households rely on coolers and air conditioners. However, cooling can account for up to 50% of a household’s or company’s annual energy expenses. Switching to a 5-star energy-efficient air conditioner can significantly reduce this cost.

To reduce this cost, BRPL and BYPL have launched a limited-period ‘AC Replacement Scheme’ in partnership with leading air conditioner manufacturers. This initiative will help domestic consumers of South, West, East, and Central Delhi replace their old ACs with new, energy-efficient 5-star ACs, including next-generation inverter technology models, at discounts of up to 63% off the MRP.

Under the scheme, around 40 window and split ACs of leading brands like LG, Bluestar, Godrej, Voltas and Lloyd are on offer on a first cum first serve basis. A domestic consumer, residing in South, Wes, East and Central Delhi, will be eligible to exchange a maximum of 3 ACs against a unique CA number.

To avail the scheme, an eligible BRPL consumer, residing in South and West Delhi, has to call BRPL’s helpline number 19123 or the register on the website. A BYPL consumer, residing in East and Central Delhi, on the other hand has to call 011-40746103 or visit the discom’s website. They will be contacted by the respective officials of the AC company through their empanelled vendors to take the enquiry forward after registration.

Besides the substantial discount on the energy efficient AC, a consumer can save around 3000 units annually on the running costs of an AC, depending on the model type of the AC and usage.  In monetary terms, this translates into annual savings of over Rs 29,000. Moreover, the estimated payback period under the scheme ranges from around 8 months to 3.3 years, depending on the type of AC and usage.

Commenting about the scheme, a BSES spokesperson stated, “As a leader in social responsibility, BSES remains dedicated to promoting energy conservation initiatives. We have been powering the adoption of sustainable technologies, including LED lighting, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and rooftop solar net metering.

Now, through the BSES AC Replacement Scheme, consumers can upgrade to 5-star energy-efficient air conditioner at a significant discount. This not only lowers annual electricity costs and monthly expenses but also bolsters our collective efforts toward a more sustainable and greener future.”
